Community Support of Senior Class

There are many lovely traditions that have been part of the IS community since we graduated our first class. Each June, as our Senior Class prepares to graduate, the community of IS joins together to help support the celebrations that are part of this special time. This allows the families of our graduating seniors the ability to focus on celebrating their graduates and also gives parents from other grades a chance to see what’s ahead. All of us on staff are so proud of our seniors and we look forward to celebrating with you! Many of us have known these students since they were 12 years old and it’s been wonderful to see them grow, learn, mature, and blossom in our community.

Below is an outline of the contributions each grade makes to the culminating graduation events. This year, because PTSA has received generous support and contributions from the parent community, the events will be supported monetarily by PTSA. However your help is needed to provide tasty treats and/or volunteer to assist in hosting an event. This is also one way to get an insider’s look at to what it will be like when you have a senior. I hope you will be able to help us – soon it will be your family’s turn to honor your special IS graduate!

6th -11th Grade Level Support:

  • 6th Grade Families:  Host box lunch for seniors on Senior Project Board Day and light dinner for Senior Celebration Rehearsal.
  • 7th and 11th Grade Families:  Host Graduation Reception following the Commencement ceremony.
  • 8th and 9th Grade Families:  Host Senior Celebration Dessert Reception. This event is held prior to graduation at an off-campus site with special recognition for each graduating senior.
  • 10th Grade Families:  Host light catered lunch the day of Graduation Rehearsal and snacks prior to Graduation.

12th Grade Family Support:

  • Seniors/Staff Lunch:  Senior Parents host luncheon in the Commons for all Staff and graduating seniors.
  • Senior Celebration:  Parents work with Seniors to create Senior Celebration program, including staff and student speakers, musical performances, individual student introductions and a special slide show.
  • Commencement/Graduation:  Parents and Staff work together beginning in April to put together program, oversee selected student and staff speakers, and create a special ceremony.
  • Grad Night Party:  Parents plan and chaperone a party for graduating Seniors which immediately follows the Graduation Reception.  Students depart on busses to several events and ends with an early morning breakfast. Details of party events are kept secret.
